PLACES

THE ISLE OF PURBECK

THE WILTSHIRE DOWNS

Certain landscapes affect me in a special way. The Isle of Purbeck with its spectacular coastline, sweeping hinterland of ridges and the imposing ruins of Corfe Castle never fails to uplift and cast a spell every time I visit.

The downs that stretch from above Pewsey towards Devizes are suffused with mystery. Ancient tumuli and ditchworks abound, evidence of the workings of distant history.

ANCIENT SITES

Iron Age hill forts and prehistoric standing stones fascinate me. Landscapes that bear the marks left by people from ancient times have an indefinable resonance. I try to tune into this when I paint the shapes and contours of the land, and at the same time allow my own imagination to work freely.
